Diana has been so active lately that we haven’t gotten many new pictures, so we’ve included a few oldies but goodies for this post, including one from a year ago so you can see how much she’s grown. Well, maybe she hasn’t grown that much… She’s still super tiny for her age, and has been hovering around 20 lbs. (5th percentile-ish) for the past few months. But she’s talking and eating a lot, so we’re trying not to worry about her little size. We all had a wonderful time at a Cinco de Mayo dinner at the club, and Diana particularly liked the beef tenderloin and corn chips. She’s also started to enjoy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and carrot sticks. While she’s still using mostly single words, she does have a few phrases that she uses (e.g. “hold it,” “thank you”), and is starting to experiment more with putting multiple words together. She’s also speaking a lot of Bahasa Indonesia, thanks to our nanny and the Indonesian kids that she plays with at the park. She doesn’t say as many phrases in Indonesian, but she actually knows her numbers better than in English.
The next month here in Tembagapura will have some fun end-of-the-school-year activities for us, but I think both of us are looking forward to June when we get to have a little vacation and time back in the US. It feels like a long time since we were there, and amazing to think that Diana will turn two this summer. Em and “Kedua” are doing fine, and Diana can say “sister” and point to Em’s growing belly. She loves playing with her baby dolls and feeding them and taking them to the potty, so hopefully she will handle the transition to being a big sister well.

Here’s some pictures from either a 2-year birthday party for one of Diana’s friends in town or a helicopter tour of the mine and Puncak Jaya with some geologists visiting from Rio Tinto. You decide which pictures are which…

Diana woke up on Sunday to a basket left by the Easter Bunny. She really liked her box of guava juice – mainly becuase of the bear on the box. We did include some chocolate eggs, but, like all good parents, we gave her one bite and then we ate the rest. We care about Diana’s health! Of course, Diana played with the paper “grass” from her Easter basket longer than anything else! Here are some pictures! (Hover your mouse over the picture for captions.)

We’re back from our wonderful week-long vacation in Cairns, Australia. We had a wonderful time, and will add some more text in the next day or so to let you know what we got up to, but for now, here’s what you’re all waiting for anyway: the pictures!

Diana has been having a fun week trying on different clothes, hats, sunglasses, and shoes. She’s become more intersted in looking at herself in different items, and also likes looking at herself in the mirror while she plays with her teddy, or wears a hat. Her new couch continues to be a source of amusement, and she’s learned how to say “lounge” and to do the corresponding action. She’s also learning a lot of Indonesian, both from us and from the nanny. She can now say “morning,” “thanks,” “good,” and “rock” in Indonesian, and uses them correctly.

Now that we’ve finally gotten over our colds, we’ve been able to get a couple of cute pictures of Diana. Ok, well the one was from Valentine’s Day which was weeks ago, but she just got her first piece of toddler-sized furniture and wanted to show it off. She sat down with a book right away, and has loved lounging in her little sofa.

Diana has been keeping us busy, busy busy lately. She’s been learning lots of new words, and a few new signs as well, and has been enjoying babbling a lot. She’s been learning the power of saying “please” and has been using that often in order to get picked up, or to get more snacks. Making the connection between words and actions and things has made the world an exciting place for her – she learned “touch” in the bath last night and touched everything is sight while saying “tuth,” it was very cute. We’ve been letting her use her sunglasses all the time and saying how cool she looks when she wears them, so now whenever she sees a character in a book wearing sunglasses, she points and says “cool.”
We’ve been lucky enough to be able to borrow a pembantu (“helper”) from friends who are out on vacation, so Diana has been able to practice playing with someone new, and Em’s been able to come home to a spotless bathroom and kitchen. Diana has been great about taking naps and eating meals when Tati is babysitting, and talks to her a lot while they play. When Em comes home, Diana then recounts their whole day in babble-talk and shows Em all of the toys that she played with. Diana is still eating very well and even seems to be going through a growth spurt! She still loves pasta, and we were lucky enough to get avocados this week, and she ate half all by herself for a snack on Monday.
Diana still looks like a pretty good mix of both of us – her hair is really starting to curl in the back and on the sides, and she’s gotten her first few freckles in the past month. She loves to give hugs and to tickle us under the chin. Must be payback time for her!

Here are three pictures from waaaay back on January 23rd when Diana wore her new blue sweater. We went down to the park where Diana loves to climb the stairs on the slide. (We make sure we’re there to catch her if she misses a step!) Sometimes some of the older girls in the neighborhood will carry Diana around so we can just relax. Diana is saying “up please” now when she wants to be picked up and will also say “please” when she wants a cracker. It is very cute. We have been taking her down to the sports hall just down the block in the evenings to run around on the basketball/badminton or tennis court. (People are there playing badminton every night!) She walks around a little, but mostly likes staring at the other kids and people at the sportshall.

Sorry we’ve been under construction for a while, and will be for a little while longer, but here are some pics from our Bali vacation (finally!)…
