Cuddle-fish

May 23, 2009 by benemily

After a long week of runny noses, Diana and Em are finally on the mend.ย  We’ve started doing our daily 25 minute loop walk around the neighborhood again, and the fresh air and sunshine has helped. Diana had her follow-up visit with the doctor on Friday and he said everything looked fine. He had originally given us three meds to give her three times a day, but we followed a more relaxed schedule, and dropped two of the meds after two days, and just gave the cough syrup/decongestant at night since it conked her out. She was clearly feeling better on Thursday and was very happy and giggly all day, which was great since she needed to go with Em to Tembag to get snacks for Ben’s safety meeting. Most of the snacks were of the chocolate or gummy variety, but we threw in the Cuttlefish flavored snacks as a wildcard – needless to say, the Indonesians gobbled them up without hesitation, while they made Ben nauseous, even just to look at.
Diana has gotten her appetite back, and she’s doing better with the finger foods, so we’re feeding her in her high-chair now. We’ve added a few new foods in the last two weeks as well: brie cheese (loves it), avocado
(likes it ok), and chicken (doesn’t like so much). But she’s been very enthusiastic about food in general, so we’re continuing to try and re-try things.

She’s been as happy and friendly with strangers as ever. The receptionists at the hospital, the librarians, and the ladies who work at the cafรฉ and grocery store all know her name and talk to her every time we go out. Now that we know the Indonesian words for “very cute” – lucu sekali – we hear strangers saying it about her all the time. Still no progress on crawling, but she enjoys when we help her stand up, so maybe she’ll go straight to walking. Her eighth tooth is cutting through on the bottom, so her smile should even out soon.

We’ve been having a relaxing Saturday. Tomorrow we plan to watch the runners in the Race to the Clouds event (13km long, 800 meters up and then down again from Tembagapura to Hidden Valley and back), and then head to brunch. Otherwise, status quo here.
